Jordan Merrick
Brisbane based folk and blues-rock songwriter Jordan Merrick has captivated audiences around the world for the past 5 years.
His debut EP – In Colour – has been streamed over a million times – receiving praise from the likes of AAA Backstage heralding Merrick as “Brisbane’s Bob Dylan”.
He followed this up with a second EP in the same year –Stories From House Arrest – which saw his song ‘Gypsy Diver’ reach #1 in the AMRAP Regional Charts.
In 2019 he partnered with Aria winner Steven Schram to craft his debut album – Night Music – an album which has been described as ‘timeless’ (Calen Le Couteur, Music Is MyMuse) and drew comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave & Tom Waits with his unique takeon folk and blues.
When the pandemic hit, Merrick – now hauled up in his home studio – released six folk songs within 7 months, including Millennial Blues – a song ironically released day one of lockdown.
He followed this up with a much-anticipated sophomore album ‘Waiting Blues’ which included ‘This Rainy Day’ (#6 on AMRAP Metro Charts) and saw Merrick dive into the emotions of the pandemic head on. This album – released on vinyl – reached #15 on the Australian Independent Record Label Association Charts – connecting deeply with audiences and critics alike.
GC Live hailed it a touching album that says what needs to be said, while Brisbane Podcast Emerge rated ‘The Mob Song’ #6 in their top 50 countdown. While 2022 is a mystery, we can be sure Merrick will be back sooner rather than later with more songs and stories to share.
